Pet peeve = Jennifer Aniston edition

From back when this blog was hosted at another service, I've often made mention of one of my major peeves when it comes to actresses today. That would be when they audition or aggressively pursue a role that requires nudity and then once they have the part, demand that it be rewritten to accommodate their sense of modesty.

These demands often extend to rewriting or deleting scenes, bringing in body doubles, backlighting, etc. Often at the expense of the continuity of the film's narrative.

Here's my thing -- if you don't want to go full monty in a flick, then don't audition for the part. Simple.

Well, now comes Jennifer Aniston in the movie We're the Millers. She either plays a stripper or her character strips for some reason, but following in the footsteps of Lindsay Lohan, Natalie Portman, Jessica Alba, and others, Jen plays a stripper who keeps her clothes on:

Now I haven't been to a strip club since college (a really long time ago), but if I plunked down my hard earned cash at a club and some chick climbed on stage and only wore the outfits above (including the spanx boy shorts from the Sydney Leathers collection), I think I'd be having a fairly animated conversation with someone about getting my money back.

And what makes matters worse, is that this is the umpteenth time we've had Jen in a movie where her publicists have blared loud and long about how she's finally going to show some skin, blah, blah . . . then there's nothing there when the movie finally comes out.

Seriously sweetheart, if you don't want to get naked on film, I'm okay with that. But quit promising that this is finally the film where you're going to go all the way and then not go through with it. Boy who cried wolf ring a bell?

Say what you want about Demi Moore and that crappy movie Striptease, at least she had stones to go all the way in it:

Though it sorta looked like her stones were in those rock hard implants.  eesh

Update:
*groan*

And now it seems the talk is beginning again. After promising and not delivering in the original, Aniston through some spokesperson is saying that she intends to go topless in the sequel to We're the Millers. The money quote from a recent National Inquirer article speaks volumes:

"It’s possible the topless shot will be from a distance and Jen will be wearing a body stocking or even body art, but she’s also discussed with the studio the possibility of a close-up with her breasts pixilated or covered with a funny blooper motif," noted the source. "She thinks that could be funny but still provocative."

Right. So in other words...this will be like every movie she's put out in the last ten years where she's gone on about how she's in the best shape of her life, and wants to show her body off and break out of the America's Sweetheart mold, yada, yada . . . and still isn't going to go through with it.

Bottom line, is that the only time Jen's been found nude on film is when someone got ahold of the raw footage from something she was in and sold the unexpurgated image of her to the tabloids:

Tonite's episode of AoS

'Cause I'm getting tired of typing out Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. all the time.

Oooh, bunches more clues about Coulson tonight. We now know, that he knows, that he died (which sort of contradicts something from the first episode, so oops?). He mentions that he knows that he was dead for more than 8 seconds and that he went "there." And that it was beautiful.

We know that he knows something isn't right with himself, as he ordered blood work (normal except for high iron...clue?) and a physical. Simmons declares him perfectly fit (again...clue?) then guilelessly tacks on "for a man your age."  heh

We got to see the scar on his chest from when Loki impaled him in the Avengers movie. And at first, I thought they were hinting at a relationship between Coulson and May, but I'm thinking now that she was referring to her own "near death" experience (that prompted her to get a desk job as mentioned in the premiere) when they were getting all misty together at the end of the episode.

It looks like they're going to go with the death changes a man vibe for a while. But I'm thinking that's some misdirection from the writers and Whedon. I can't imagine they went through all the trouble to resurrect Coulson and start a mystery around him, only to pass it off so blithely.

Ana Braga almost isn't wearing that bikini

I mean, technically, she is wearing a bikini, but seriously . . .

I think when it comes to quantifying levels of coverage, that bikini falls in the "barely there" or perhaps "inadequate" catagory.

Not that I'm complaining, mind you . . .

What's a shrieking AGW harpy to do?

The planet is currently in a 10 year period of global cooling. The US is seeing extreme heat events (over 100 degrees) at their lowest numbers in nearly a century. The number of tornadoes are on pace to be the lowest in 13 years. No major hurricanes (cat. 3 or higher) have made landfall from either the Atlantic or Pacific this season, the first time that has occurred since 1968. And the number of wildfires is the lowest in a decade and the acreage involved in those fires is tied with the second lowest in that time period.

So what is an eco-douchebag like James Cameron going to do? Why, he's going to gather some climate morons like Matt Damon, Harrison Ford, and Arnold Schwarzenegger and make a movie about the dangers of man-made global warming.

Of course.

No word yet on whether Ed Begley Jr. will make an appearance as an animated GIF popping up throughout the movie alternately shrieking "The science is settled!" and "Peer reviewed!"   One can hope.

And that would be the same James Cameron that dared noted foe of the fake AGW hysteria, Marc Morano, to a debate only to back out when Morano agreed. Cameron then offered to debate Sarah Palin (?!?!) and then backed out of that as well. The same James Cameron who owns three houses, a fleet of submarines, a couple of yachts, multiple vehicles, flies all over the world, and basically has a carbon footprint the size of mega-Godzilla. And don't even come at me with that nonsense about the scam of "carbon offset" fees he supposedly pays. If you're gullible enough to buy that load of horse manure, I've got some swampland and a few bridges to sell you.

I'm sure with Cameron's big dollars, special effects expertise, and Hollywood connections, the flick will be an Al Gore/Michael Moore wet dream of propaganda -- half truths, outright lies, and cherry picked data sets.

And just like the Goreacle's schlockumentary, it will be lauded by self-hating liberals and low information voters, and pronounced by intellectually uninterested MSNBC hosts as "The Truth!"

And like all lies, it will get around the world before the real truth can get its pants on and strike back.

*sigh*

Tough to enjoy the Sox victory...

...when your home town newspaper is the Tampa Bay Times.

I had planned to do a write-up after Boston won the World Series earlier this week. But an early day at work the next day prevented me from staying up late doing a post. But after I read the paper at lunch the following day, I was more tempted to write something about the crappy coverage by the paper.

The story was placed below the fold on the front page of the sports section and continued on the back page, below the fold and under the local weather report. For the World Series! That's how they decided to cover one of the major U.S. sports championships!

With no chance of the Buccaneers being in the Super Bowl this season's end, the paper will feature, as it always does, a wrap-around collector style wrap-up with photos and stories. Same with the Stanley Cup (though the Lightning may have a chance at being involved in that if they keep playing at the same level they are now. Go Bolts!).

But the World Series? Because Boston was involved, got the sort of treatment local high school football championships usually get. And the writer, Marc Topkin -- oof! What a whine and sour grapes story he spat out for readers to enjoy.

The first line of the story: "Finishing behind the Red Sox in the American League East felt bad for the Rays. Getting eliminated by the Sox in the Division Series, and having to watch them celebrate at the Trop, was worse. • And now they have to live with this: The Red Sox are World Series champs." Yes, that's right -- the World Series is all about the Rays. Who knew?

Topkin went on to diminish the excitement of the game itself. Mock Shane Victorino for acting excited as he, after sitting on the bench for two games, drove in three runs with a towering double off the Green Monster. Sneer at Jonny Gomes for "doing nothing to avoid" being hit by a pitch to get on base. And even took a swipe (perhaps?) at the Rays for giving Boston 15 of their 108 total wins (playoffs + regular season). He even threw in something about how there would be Boston's "expected flaunting of the championship." 'Cause no other championship team ever mentions that they've won a championship the previous year.

What a tool!

And in today's paper, Tom Jones, took another swipe at the team, once again, former Ray Jonny Gomes, as he snarked about the talk on Gomes bringing something to teams he has played with. Jones mentioned that the Rays, A's and Reds all former teams of Gomes, all got to the playoffs without him this year.

Yeah, but the Sox won the Series with him, sh*thead! And everyone from the custodian to the owners have acknowledged that Gomes brought some needed character and effort to the team. So, pbbbthtt...jog on!

This is the sort of crap that makes it hard for me to root for my local team. I'm happy we have a baseball team here, and I'd like them to stay and do well. But this j.v. homer-ism in the press ruins it for me.

Oh well, congrats to the Red Sox -- 2013 World Series Champs.

Told ya to fear the beard! :-)
