TAMPA (FOX 13) - The Tampa Police Department has called on their bomb squad after finding an several weapons inside a Jeep near the University of South Florida main campus.
According to preliminary information from TPD, a National Guardsman, identified as 29-year-old Clay Sidney Allred of North Carolina, fired an AK-47 several times outside of the Mobil gas station at North 30th Street and East Fowler Avenue after getting into an argument with a man inside the store.
Police said Allred shouted ethnic slurs at the man, who then asked him to leave. Allred then allegedly got into his red Jeep Wrangler, pulled out of his parking space, stopped to fire the shots, and took off.
A short time later, an officer pulled Allred over near Fletcher Avenue and Magnolia Drive. The officer arrested him and called for back up after finding several weapons and military gear inside his vehicle.
The bomb squad was called to identify all of the weapons. So far, police said they found several loaded guns, an AR-15, a bat, a hatchet, and a white mask inside the Jeep.
Allred has been charged for aggravated assault related to a hate crime, shooting from a vehicle, and criminal mischief.
