The President sets the tone fo...He <i><b>is</b></i> responsible. The President sets the tone for the political agenda of his party, both directly and indirectly via his rhetoric. He, or she, gets the credit for bills that the public like, and has to deal with the blowback on bills that the public doesn't like or agree with.<br /><br />No one mentions who the Speaker was when this bill or that was enacted, for better or worse, legislation is laid at the feet of whoever was President when it was enacted. <br /><br />And President Obama's position on the 2nd Amendment and private ownership of firearms has been clear since day one.
